Two more rate laws and reaction mechanisms
2nd order rate laws are for two things colliding
0th order rate laws are for reactions that do not depend on the concentration of the reactants.
Intermediates are used up in subsequent elementary steps.

Rate Laws
- Differential rate law connects concentration to rate.
- Integrated rate law connects concentration to time.
- Using experimental data, both k and rate order may be determined.

Kind of starting rates...
We didn't get very far, but that's okay.
- We went over the exam.
- Talked about comets.
- Looked at the Big Idea 4 framework
- Discussed the conceptual concepts

Unit 6 Exam
Today we took the exam on bonding.
If you like math, you will like our next chapter on chemical kinetics.
Homework:
Read Chapter 12. Answer the Review Questions.

The answer to Zujun's Question
I found a website that gives a pretty easy to follow explanation of Zujun's question about gas dissolving in liquid.
http://antoine.frostburg.edu/chem/senese/101/solutions/faq/temperature-gas-solubility.shtml
A large part of it is that Step 1 doesn't really matter for gases since their attractive forces are so much smaller.

Solutions
We have a test on Monday over the relevant information in Chapters 10 and 11.
Homework:
No official problems. Take a look at the framework and try to find problems (especially FRQs) that might be on the test. There will be at least one problem involving separation techniques.

Condensed Matter
Well, the Jesus Lizard and fulgurite aside, we still managed to get through a lot of Chapter 10. You really need to read the AP Curriculum framework in order to get a grasp on the relevant material in these two chapters. It's less than you might think
Test is still on Monday.

Unit 5 Exam
Bonding Exam went well, I think. Our next unit is on intermolecular forces. It's very short. The exam will be 11/10.
Homework:
Read Chapter 10. Answer the review questions on page 497.
